It was unique in the History of the Cloughmore Male Voice Choir- a Standing Ovation and a shout for an encore for “O Holy Night”. Dean Power a young Lyrical Tenor from Co. Clare was the Soloist and the backing and chorus from the Choir were very moving. Dean had the audience enthralled from the beginning with pure unforced singing and his sincerity. He sang, “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes” from Gilbert and Sullivan, “She is Far from the Land”, ”Maria” from West Side Story and La Donna E Mobile in the first half. It was his rendering in the second half of the old favourite “My Lagan Love” and the modern pieces “Gabriel’s Oboe” and “Time to Say Goodbye” that really thrilled the audience and set them up for “O Holy Night”.

Audience Appreciated This Night Of Music
They promised a night worthy of their 30th anniversary and they delivered - the members of the Cloughmore Male Voice Choir and their musical Director, Collette Hart Lavery. The Choir certainly lived up to the Newry city motto of Think Big by producing a wonderful summer concert with Mega performers. Orla Boylan, a true operatic diva, sang powerfully, beautifully and emotively. Newry Town Hall was filled with the sound of her wonderful voice in a programme that included "The Song to the Moon", "Summertime" (from Porgy and Bess), "I Dreamt I Dwell in Marble Halls" (Bohemian Girl) and "At the Mid Hour of Night". She gave a thrilling rendering of "One Fine Day" from Madame Butterfly by Puccinni and the magnificent "Easter Hymn" by Mascagni. Orla was accompanied by the Male Voice Choir while singing "Easter Hymn" and "The Last Rose of Summer" and received tumultuous applause for both.
